Con Buddies Scheme
Are you interested in coming to ELLCon, but daunted about coming on your own? Never been to a lesfic event before? Are you worried about flying solo, thinking you won’t know anyone? Or conversely, have you been to events before, and are keen to help newbies with some light-touch mentoring? We have created the EllConBuddy scheme, to help new attendees and put them in touch with those who are willing to mentor.
When you fill in your application form, you will be given the opportunity to sign up to the scheme. You will receive a welcome email from Valden Bush, the Con Buddy Coordinator, and the link to join the Buddy Scheme closed Facebook Group.
Depending on interest, we may set up a social meet-up the night before the main event, over some pizza and drinks. So you won’t have to go in on the day of the meet without at least knowing one person!
At the event itself there will be a couple of tables in the seating area for Buddies – if you sit here you will find other Buddies, mentors, the committee members or even authors, will come and chat to you.
Don’t feel sociable for a while? No problem, sit elsewhere, and we may still come and speak, but it is likely to be more random.
On the day, there will also be opportunities to volunteer – for example, at meet & greet – which means people will come and talk to you, instead of you having to go and find people to talk to.
Not on Facebook, or have questions or worries about attending solo? Email Valden at firstname.lastname@example.org, and she will help sort them out. Also have a look at her post on attending her first solo meet at DIVA for some tips.
