Join us for a tour of the historic, Grade-II listed, Will’s memorial building and tower. Built in 1925 in the neo-gothic style, the building and tower are both iconic Bristol landmarks. The tour will be lead by an experienced tour guide, employed by the University. Will’s tower is the third -tallest structure in Bristol at 66 metres, and offers unparalleled views of Bristol.
On entering the building, a sweeping double staircase leads to the Great Hall, with its carved oak-panelled walls, and lead windows, still in use today for graduation ceremonies. Our next stop will be the belfry, to hear Great George chime. From here, we will proceed to the top of the tower, where you will be treated to some magnificent views of Bristol, the Cathedral and the river Avon. Our tour ends with a visit to the Old Council Chambers and the Library.
The building is University property, and not open to the public, so don’t miss this opportunity to explore one of Bristol’s landmark buildings. Tickets cost £6, and tour guides donate all profits to the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal (Bristol Children’s Hospital).
How many stairs?: A lift will takes people to the 5th floor. You will then need to climb 70 steps to get to the bell tower (belfry). From there on, a further 130 steps will take you to the top of the tower.
If you don’t want to climb the stairs: Valden will be leading the group, along with the guide, to the top of the tower. If you don’t fancy climbing the stairs, stay with me (Zara) on the 5th floor, where we will wait for the other group to re-join us.
Dinner: You can join us for dinner even if you are not coming to the tower tour – in this case, please only fill the registration form below. Dinner will be paid on an indivual basis by delegates.
